Charlotte
Caffey and Anna Waronker have started a record label called
Five Foot Two Records. Both have experienced the record business
from many different angles. Charlottes success in the
Go-Gos was revolutionary for women. Having emerged from
the punk rock scene in early eighties Los Angeles, the Go-Gos
were the first all female band to write all of their songs, play all
of their instruments, and sell millions of records. Anna, who
led her almost-all-girl band, That Dog through three critically
acclaimed albums on DGC/Geffen Records throughout the nineties
also made an impact on the world of women musicians and songwriters.
Anna is the first woman in three generations of her family
to head a record label. Her grandfather, Si Waronker founded
the prestigious Liberty Records, and father, Lenny was
president of Warner Bros. Records for many years and now resides
as president at the artist driven Dreamworks Records. Both
known for being strong-minded, crafty song-writers and sassy rock
chicks, Charlotte and Anna are ready to put on yet another
hat.
Filling Five Foot Twos roster with strong song-writing
and self-sufficient artists, they plan to release Annas
first solo album, "Anna By Anna Waronker" in the
summer of 2002. Anna produced and engineered most of her album,
wrote all of the songs, and even played almost all of the instruments.
Other artists include Redd Kross, the Muffs and Lisa
Marr at this time. Charlotte and Anna created Five
Foot two Records to help nurture careers and try an alternative
approach to releasing records. They encourage making your own records
and having a strong work ethic. Five Foot Two Records has teamed
up with Oglio Entertainment to help facilitate on the business
end. Annas father Lenny has been a major influence
through his dedication to nurturing his artists (Neil Young,
R.E.M, Rufus Wainright) careers. Anna and Charlotte
are hoping to continue this legend with the heart that he has touched
all of his artists with.
Family plays a major part in the creation of Five Foot Two Records,
but not just because of Annas father and grandfather.
Charlotte and Anna are sisters-in-law. Being married
to the McDonald brothers of Redd Kross, Jeff
is married to Charlotte and Steve to Anna, they
have found yet another common ground. Charlotte and Anna
have the ideal makings of a partnership and plan to create an extended
family at Five Foot Two Records. Their future plans include
releases from the above mentioned artists and the formation of a publishing
company called Fountain of Music. Plan on hearing and seeing
only quality from these quality women.
